Sculptural Vases
Sandra's newest sculpural work is constructed from slab pieces. These flat or slightly modified surfaces are then used as a 'canvas' for colors and textures and calligraphic-like expressions to re-create a feeling she gathers from her island environment, ocean beaches and forest. These pieces take the form of triptychs, wall reliefs, and large slab pots. The vases that Sandra makes are inspired by her trips to Japan, where she is exposed to many different styles of pottery, flower arranging, and tea ceremony. Her environment on Galiano also informs her work: the textures and colors of the forest and ocean shoreline are the inspiration for each piece.
